So you think you can organize a WordCamp?
- If this is your first one, it’s best to have a WordPress meetup first to see how much interest you can generate. This can also lead you to potential co-organizers, volunteers, sponsors and speakers.
- Start at least 6 months in advance if not earlier. The earlier you start the less stressful it will be and you’ll have more options.
- Get at least 3-4 co-organizers to help you with: volunteers, sponsorship, schwag, venue/food, speakers. You will be the main organizer to oversee everything.
- Choose a date. Try to avoid holiday weekends and summer (people go away). Research to see if there are any tech type events going on in your area that could attract the same type of attendees. However, if there is something going on on Friday and you have WC on Saturday – this could work to your advantage. If people are coming to town anyway they can do a 2 for 1. Ask a few people in your community for advice on good dates. Pick at least 3 options for dates (Saturdays are best).
