Hi everyone!
With Jorge Epuñan (a very nice folk you’ll be about to know here), we’re starting to plan a WordCamp in Chile. As of now, we have a tentative date (ATM April 2010, far away), and preparing a list of venues.
However, I’m concerned about which topics will be well received here. We don’t have people nor space to run 8 tracks of sessions (*wink* NYC). There’s in mind a big auditorium (200-300 people), and the public will be surely mixed (from people who doesn’t know WordPress to advanced developers).
So, the million-line-code question is: within your experience, which topics are the most popular inside WordCamps?

Hi Juan! As discussed via email, I’ll be in Chile/Santiago during December/January, so let’s catch up and we can discuss WordCamps, WordPress in general, and anything else that comes up

Hi Juan – As it happens, the biggest WP rockstar I know is in Chile if you need speakers: Guillermo Moreno Q who is @gmq on Twitter. If we could afford to bring him to Ireland for our WordCamp, we would; he’s worth speaking to about yours if you need people.

Cátia Kitahara
Hi Beau, here’s Cátia from Brazil, if by any chance you’ll have some time to come to Brazil while you are in Chile, please, let me know. We could organize a developers meetup. Yeah, I know it’s not so easy, but when we think about the distance betweeen Australia and Brazil, Chile is quite close
) You’ll be wellcomed in São Paulo.-

I’ve just learned you live in San Francisco. Anyway, Chile is still closer to Brazil

I’m in Chile right now, and have been in touch with Juan and Jorge. Hoping to meet up with them both in the near future and then we’ll go from there.
@Cátia I probably won’t make it over to Brazil this time unfortunately, but I’d love to at some point, so will definitely let you know when/if that happens!

Since it is your first WordCamp, I would suggest just doing 1 day and 1 track. You could do beginner/basic topics in the a.m. and more advanced topics in the p.m. Or if you feel you have enough content for a dual track, that works really well too. We have a dual track in SF and it works out perfectly for us. What you could do on your site is ask for topics that people are interested in or give them a choice of topics and have people vote. After all, it is a community event! As far as popularity of topics I think it really varies since the WordCamps are so diverse in nature and take place in so many different cultures and countries.
